Sunshine Coast whale watching season: June to November

Unforgettable Whale Watching experiences on the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast is one of the best places in Australia to go whale watching. With its pristine waters, diverse marine life, and stunning scenery, it is the perfect location to witness the annual migration of the humpback whales.

Every year, thousands of humpback whales make their way from Antarctica to the warmer waters of the Great Barrier Reef to give birth, and raise their young.

The warm waters of the Sunshine Coast provide the perfect environment for whales to rest and play, providing an incredible opportunity to see these magnificent creatures up close.

What is Whale Watching?

Whale watching is a popular activity where people go out on boats to observe whales in their natural environment. It is a unique opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures up close and personal. Whale watching tours usually last a few hours, and during this time, you can expect to see humpback whales breaching, slapping their tails, and flippers on the water’s surface. You may also get to witness other marine life such as dolphins, turtles, and various bird species.

Whale watching tours are a responsible and sustainable way to enjoy these magnificent creatures, as they are operated by licensed companies that are committed to protecting the marine environment and minimising disturbance to the animals.

Did the 1 hour whale watching experience and it was a beautiful day when we went.
Saw two females and a calf.
One of them came by the boat.

Magical experience seeing mum and calf. A smaller boat with less passengers made for a more personal experience with the whales! The skippers where amazing and very friendly making sure we were comfortable and happy throughout. Would definitely recommend 😄

Just finished a 2hr whale watching trip with Finn & Ryan. Such an amazing experience. We saw our first whale five minutes into the trip and there were too many to count. So much activity from them. Photo says it all (a calf flipping). We even had a large female come right up and under the boat. Family experience of a lifetime. Can not thank Finn & Ryan enough. Still pumped!
